Solan is the beautiful city located in Himachal Pradesh which is also the headquarters of Solan district. This city is named after Hindu goddess Shoolini devi. In the month of June, a fair is held celebrating the goddess is held. It is also known as the “Mushroom city of India” because of the presence of Directorate of Mushroom Research (DMR) also vast mushroom farming in this area.
The Kalka-Shimla narrow gauge heritage railway line built by the British passes through Solan and is a recognised World Heritage site. Solan is also associated with rich history. It is believed that Pandavas lived here during their exile. Also being located at a height of around 5000 feet above sea level, Solan railway station is one of the highest railway station in the world.
