Fundamentals of Romantic Love & Spiritual Love

It’s seen that romantic and spiritual love are mistakenly believed to be just two sides of the same coin. While both originate from the same divine root of life with the purpose of creating a pleasurable and tranquil atmosphere, there is a clear difference between these two.

Romantic love can be very much thrilling that it can be easy to mistake it for spiritual love. With the fact that romantic love comes from separation and spiritual love from oneness, we can say that while romantic love is conditional and sexual however spiritual love is unconditional and asexual. There are many who use the spiritual definition to impel guilt in a person for his naive and healthy sexual wishes. Spiritual love is given freely however romantic love is earned! Blurring the lines overlooks the truth that man can’t respect that which he hasn’t earned. The point here is they both aren’t a variance on the same theme. They are entirely different and opposite states. The amalgamation of two has led to chaos as reflected by the stockpile of heartless, sexless, senseless union between partners who are with each other because of the emotional blackmailing of love’s spiritual interpretation. Compassion as simply spiritual is the emptiest type of love possible between a man and a woman.

A Glimpse of Romantic Love

It’s a love that requires the union of two individuals. It’s a natural part of most of our lives especially at the starting of the relationship. Perhaps, if we try to cling to it for our happiness, then we will no longer be happy and content. The reason is that we’re pinning our ecstasy on an external condition in a world where change is the only constant!

As human beings, we oppose the flow of change and try to bring some permanence to the world. We hitched to happiness while knowing that it can be taken away in a matter of seconds. Because we know that nothing is permanent nor the smell, not the taste. We begin a relationship with the expectations that we will play every part perfectly but when the “conditions” for the love doesn’t meet, we experience unhappiness and grieving over days, months, and years. Either we try changing the other person, or we look for someone who will finally fulfill our “conditions”. The cycle continues. The main point here is that we forget that true love can’t be given nor taken away no matter what!

A Glimpse of Spiritual Love

It’s a love whose fundamental feature is sacrifice. This doesn’t mean that spiritual love is evil. Many ask if spiritual love is special? Its answer is No! Before experiencing this love, if someone says “they love me in a spiritual way”, I would say “ this divine love must be the real deal. We must be extraordinary”. However, it doesn’t make you or the other person special in either way. Indeed, it’s right that when one opening meets another, there can be vibrancy. Moreover, when love meets love in this manner, it is the acknowledgment that “ We Are One”, against “ You Are The One”.

Real love is the art of accepting the other person as they are. Basically, spiritual love has no yearnings and demands nothing. It may manifest in a couple relationship or a deep friendship, but that does not mean that it’s necessary. It can take infinite forms.
