6 Must-Read Novels for your Book-Worm Siblings

My mini library has been lately invaded by my sister and this situation is too alarming for me. It clearly indicates that gradually she is also becoming a bibliophage like me. But hello, before that happens I want to assure her that she should have her own books and hence, I have come up with some very interesting books which only a fellow book lover can understand. Well, I feel that books are your best friend and you don’t need anyone else if you have them. They are your soul and heart sometimes, which only a bookworm like me can feel.

Every year I ritually send rakhi gifts to her without fail and this year I surely know what I have got on my list. Yes, this year I am going to get some of the most trending novels of different genres for her so that she can experience every bit of it. The community of bookworms believes that they have the power to inspire our creativity and inspire us in some or the other way. They make us think and feel things more deeply than any normal person would.

Well, not wrong if I say that books give your superpower or something. Luckily, glad enough to say that now my sister will also be a part of this superpower community. So, with my wit and power, I have made a list of six very famous books which every nerd needs to have in their library for sure.

English, August: An Indian Story by Upmanyu Chatterjee

It is perfect for your sibling if he/she is planning to join some government office. Upamanyu Chatterjee has written in it about how things work in an Indian government office and to your amazement, it is really funny. The plot revolves around Agastya Sen as he goes to Madna, a small town, and how his life changes. The writer has also painted a picture of rural India from his own experience of the Indian administrative service.

A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth

This is a tale of common people set in the Indian history of post-independence, who are looking for a decent boy to marry Lata. She is 19 and believes in falling in love at first. There isn’t just the quest of marriage and happiness, there are heartbreak and disappointment, which is so damn true. There is no emotion left unexplored throughout this sprawling 1474 pages, and no character left to understand.

The Collected Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Whenever I am in working mode and get confused, I always tend to think of how Sherlock Holmes would have done it. For me sitting on a chair and reading this novel is the most productive thing I can do. There is a lot you can surely learn from Watson and Sherlock since this is the best fiction anyone will ever get to read.

The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera

The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1984) began in Czechoslovakia in 1968. Raised in Czechoslovakia but moved to France to avoid communism, Milan Kundera set his novel during the Prague Revolution, in which Czech people were briefly granted more freedoms. Tomas, a surgeon who was a womanizer, marries photographer Tereza. Tomas has an affair with Sabina who was an artist and she also loved a professor named Franz. Kundera weaves triangles of love along with abstract thoughts on the nature of life by presenting it in beautiful prose.

The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga

It is a must-have book for your fellow book lovers since they will be learning a lot from it. The novel explores the problems of India’s culture, caste, patriotism, inequality, and poverty. The plot revolves around Balram, who fought his way out of his low social status and succeeded by conquering all the social hurdles.

The Blue Umbrella by Ruskin Bond

Have you ever been made to stand out of class in the school while your teacher was reading out his stories? Yes, I have stood out for some minimum twenty times because for me Ruskin Bond’s stories were a dreamland and he surely did take me to a different world. This story too will take the reader to another world as it is based on the hills of Garhwal and captures the life of the native Garhwalis. It shows their life, be it patriotic one or fun one. If you wish to visit the land of hills, then I bet this will be your choice.

These were some of the eminent novels which I suggest you buy for your bookworm loved ones. I am surely going to get some of these for my sister on this Raksha Bandhan. Every year I send rakhi online and this year there will be a pile of books for her along with it as a surprise to get rid of her from my mini-library.
